New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito is helping launch a Latina-to-Latina phone-banking program for Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Mark-Viverito endorsed Clinton, the Democratic frontrunner for president, earlier this year.

She has since become a vocal supporter of the ex-secretary of state and an active surrogate on Latino issues.

Mark-Viverito, the first Puerto Rican to hold the post of council speaker, appeared at Clinton’s Brooklyn headquarters to help kickstart the “Mujeres (Women) in Politics” effort.

She and other Latinas in New York called those in other states to rally them in support of Clinton.

Meanwhile, one of Mark-Viverito’s colleagues announced Monday that she is resigning from the council at year’s end.

Maria del Carmen Arroyo, who represents portions of the Bronx, said she is leaving her post to focus on “pressing family needs.”
