November 23, birthdays for Chuck Schumer, Miley Cyrus, Snooki
Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 327th day of the year.
ON THIS DAY IN 1932, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Peggy Joyce’s Glory Sold by Uncle Sam.”
The article focused a wealthy woman failing to declare items to customs upon her arrival to the U.S., thereby forfeiting them for auction.
“Peggy Hopkins Joyce’s jeweled plaque, seized by custom men 10 years ago on the ground that she had failed to declare it when arriving in this country, was sold today at public auction at the Army Base for $1,000, less than one-twelfth of its estimated value of $12,400,” the Eagle reported.
NOTABLE PEOPLE born on this day include Olympic speed skater VIKTOR AHN, who was born in 1985; actress SUSAN ANSPACH, who was born in New York City in 1945; actress and singer MILEY CYRUS, who was born in 1992; actor LUCAS GRABEEL, who was born in 1984; comedian and TV personality CHRIS HARDWICK, who was born in 1971; talk show host, comedian and actor STEVE HARVEY, who was born in 1956; composer KRZYSZTOF PENDERECKI, who was born in 1933; TV personality NICOLE “SNOOKI” POLIZZI, who was born in 1987; and U.S. Sen.
