The Brooklyn Rugby men won their third consecutive game on Saturday, defeating Old Maroon (NYC), 57-17, in the Bronx; while the Brooklyn women dropped a tough match to visiting Burlington Rugby Club (VT), 34-19.

Kicking off the second half of the 2015 season, the Brooklyn men traveled to Fordham University to face Old Maroon, who they defeated 41-0 in the opening week of the season. Brooklyn fell behind early in the first half after Old Maroon scored the game’s first try to go up 7-0. Brooklyn responded when Mike Reilly broke through Old Maroon’s back line at midfield for a try to even the score at seven, following James Brodribb’s conversion. Old Maroon added a second try several minutes later, missing on the conversion, but taking a 12-7 lead. But Brooklyn responded again after James Brodribb scored on a run down the sideline to level the score at twelve.

Brooklyn would then go on to score three more tries in a span of two minutes, the first coming from Errol Jones off of a blistering return on the ensuing kickoff, followed by Murray Stephenson and Mark O’Donnell each adding tries of their own. In a matter of minutes, Brooklyn was ahead 31-12, where the score would remain until halftime.

In the second half, Brooklyn picked up where they had left off, as Simon Fong received a ball wide and scored within minutes of the second half kickoff. Several minutes later, Mario Avocato broke through the Old Maroon defense to score under the posts, putting Brooklyn up 43-12 following Brodribb’s conversion. Brodribb and Reilly each added another try before the final whistle, giving them both two on the day, and helping Brooklyn to a 57-17 victory and keeping the team atop the division standings.
