In this courtroom sketch, Hon. Loren Baily-Schiffman listens as defendant’s attorney Allyson Avila (standing), of the law firm Wilson Elser, addresses the jury in the construction accident trial Villette v. M.A. Angeliades that took place this week in Kings County Civil Term.

Plaintiff Gerald Villete, a freight driver, was injured after arriving at a Queens site in April 2009 where a public school addition was being built. He was delivering pallets loaded with a grease trap that had to be transferred off his truck. He claims that that the forklift operator employed by M.A. Angeliades negligently offloaded the grease trap, causing the compressed wood pallet to break.

A piece of the pallet hit Villette in the face, and he claimed a traumatic brain injury plus injuries to his neck and back. He was represented by Marty Grossman (seated, center), of the law firm Robert A. Cardali & Associates.

The trial proceeded on liability, resulting in a verdict for the plaintiff. After the liability verdict, the case settled for an undisclosed sum.
