Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 282nd day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1936, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Divine Angels Win Earthly Plea to Vote Under Heavenly Names.”

The article focused on the question of voter registration names that sounded “fanciful” or “bizarre.”

“…the Board of Elections is not supposed to act as ‘censor,’ Supreme Court Justice William T. Collins… said today in upholding the right of a number of angels of Father Divine to register under their religious names, such as Peaceful Magdalene, Pleasant Day, Beacon Light and Beautiful Bloom.”
