Binks’ 26th Career Shutout Extends SFC’s Season-Opening Unbeaten Streak

Senior Harry Odell and junior Leo Folla each scored a goal, but it was red-shirt senior Jack Binks’ 26th career shutout that propelled two-time defending Northeast Conference champion St. Francis College to a 2-0 victory over visiting St. Joseph’s on Wednesday night at Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Odell tallied in the fifth minute and Folla added an insurance goal in the 65th as the Terriers (4-0-2) remained unbeaten on the season and extended their home winning streak at BBP to 10 consecutive games.

Binks, who finished with five saves for his fourth shutout of the season, didn’t face a single shot in the first half, but came up big in the 48th minute, denying a header by St. Joe’s Bliss Harris to protect the Terriers’ one-goal advantage.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound native of Darlington, England also made big stops in the 79th and 83rd minutes, after Folla had provided SFC Brooklyn with a 2-0 cushion by converting a perfect corner-kick feed from senior Vincent Bezecourt.

The Terriers will be back on the pitch Sunday in our nation’s capital when they visit Howard for a 2 p.m. kickoff.

In other local college sports news, the LIU-Brooklyn men’s basketball program announced Wednesday that Kenyon Spears, a former assistant at the University of New Orleans, would be joining head coach Jack Perri’s staff for the upcoming 2015-16 season.

Spears, who also served on the staffs at Brown University and Northeast Conference rival Wagner College, spent the previous three seasons in New Orleans, where he served as a top assistant and recruiting coordinator.

Perri also brought on Brentwood, N.Y., native Alvin Vivican as the director of basketball operations.
