Cuomo calls for national gun control policy following West Indian Day Parade violence
On Tuesday, following violent incidents that left one man dead and an aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo critically injured during West Indian Day festivities in Brooklyn, the governor called for national gun control legislation.
“This tragic shooting — this one by another seemingly random bullet — is the latest heartbreaking reminder that the crime of gun violence must stop. Enough young, innocent people have died, and it must stop now,” Cuomo said in a statement released Monday.
The West Indian Day Parade is a rollicking, colorful celebration of Caribbean culture, music, style and food, but Monday’s celebration — like those in previous years — was marred by the pre-dawn violence.
