Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) and popular car sharing network Zipcar are expanding their partnership to welcome 12 new pay-to-rent vehicles at six additional branches, at rates as low as $84 a day, BPL announced on Tuesday, September 1.

Those branches include: Walt Whitman, Bushwick, Saratoga, Flatbush, Windsor Terrace and Coney Island, each to host two Zipcars. They join the likes of the Park Slope, Bedford and Bay Ridge branches as participants in the program.

“Libraries invented the sharing economy,” said BPL President and CEO Linda Johnson, stressing that proceeds generated from the rental of parking spaces at each location help to fund branch programs. “Thanks to our partnership with Zipcar, patrons can support BPL programs and help us purchase materials just by getting where they need to go.”

According to BPL, a third Zipcar has also been added to the Bedford branch to meet high demand.
