Doc in a box rents Crumbs’ old home on Montague Street

Crumbs Bake Shop is not going to make a post-bankruptcy return to its shuttered Montague Street location.
A doc in the box called UMD Urgent Care is headed for 109 Montague St., where Crumbs’ striped awning still hangs over the glass storefront.
The cupcake baker, which was a publicly traded chain, filed for bankruptcy in July 2014 and closed all its stores. Marcus Lemonis, the host of CNBC show “The Profit,” teamed up with Fischer Enterprises to buy its assets and began reopening some of its locations last fall.
A brief aside: A few days ago, Lemonis announced the sale of his stake in Crumbs to Fischer Enterprises.
Brooklyn Heights cupcake cravers wondered whether Crumbs’ new owners would try, try again with the 109 Montague site. The “Coming Soon” sign that UMD Urgent Care recently hung in the shop window dashed their lingering hopes.

The estimated cost of remodeling Crumbs’ space into a medical office is $110,500, according to a city Buildings Department permit issued on Sept. 2.
Before Crumbs moved into the storefront in 2010, Heights Books had been its occupant.
The landlord of 109 Montague, a blue-hued walk-up apartment building between Henry and Hicks streets, is Vincenzo Pampillonia, city Finance Department records indicate.
Pampillonia bought the building, which falls within the Brooklyn Heights Historic District, for $3.7 million in 2009. Specifically, Pampillonia is the 66.6% owner of the building and his company, Italian Art Iron Works Inc., is the 33.3% owner, Finance Department records show.
Pampillonia is best known to Brooklynites as the owner of Vinnie’s Italian Art Iron Works in Boerum Hill. Its eye-catching building, 38 Bergen St., has a religious statue in a shrine on its roof.
Pampillonia didn’t want to speak about his Montague Street lease deal when contacted by the Brooklyn Eagle.
