Brooklynites celebrate the Battle of Brooklyn
Music, storytelling, reenactors, and more all helped the 69th Street American Veterans Memorial Pier come alive as Brooklynites celebrated the 239th anniversary of the Battle of Brooklyn.
Known as the largest battle of the American Revolutionary War, the Battle of Brooklyn—sometimes known as the Battle of Long Island—took place on August 27, 1776.
And on August 22, 2015, the Waterfront Alliance, along with Councilmember Vincent Gentile and the New York City Parks Department, helped Brooklyn commemorate the historic day.
“We were very excited to continue to activate the Brooklyn waterfront,” said Waterfront Alliance Maritime Operations Manager Maggie Flanagan. “We had about 220 people enjoy the activities presented [that day].”
