Ready or not, it’s here.

Nearly two years after breaking ground, Sunset Park has a new addition to its hotel roster: Wyndham Worldwide’s Wyndham Garden Brooklyn Sunset Park. Opened in July, it marks the first Wyndham Gardens hotel in Brooklyn.

The 457 Hotel Group-owned building, 437 39th Street, is on the larger side of the nabe’s hotels, providing 70 rooms on a 10,017-square-foot lot.

“Brooklyn continues to grow in popularity for visiting tourists looking for a truly authentic New York experience in one of the most dynamic and sought-after cities in the world for travel,” said Brand President for Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, Duane Elledge.

The contemporary hotel touts its scenic views and close proximity to both JFK and LaGuardia airports and the rest of the city, as well as accommodations that are eco and pet-friendly, an airport shuttle and free-Wi-Fi. It also is unique in its design. Horst Design International, the hotel’s designer, chose a season-theme and each guest floor represents a time of year: either winter, spring, summer or fall.

However, not all locals are on board with some feeling more attention should be paid in other arenas, such as education.

“It appears the 36th Street train station area has inspired a hotel boom in our area, such as Days Inn, Wyndham, Kings Hotel, Hotel BPM,” said Community Board 7 member, Jovita Sosa. “Businesses continue to flourish and find adequate building land, and we as a community have not been able to secure space for much needed schools to help our severe overcrowding, and will not do so until 2020. Something’s off here.”

Some of the 6,000 members of the popular Sunset Park Facebook page Sunset Parker are also skeptical. “The general feeling on the street about the newest hotel is negative. Folks question the need for more hotels. We now have 11 with a total of 678 rooms,” said page founder Tony Giordano.

Elledge remains excited about the location. “We’re proud to introduce the Wyndham Garden brand, which promises to deliver a quality product, great value and the utmost in service, to Brooklyn and look forward to becoming a part of its thriving community,” he said.
