Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 225th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1929, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Two N.Y. Women Robbed, Arrested and Amused in Picaresque Russian Tour.”

The article focused on two wealthy, young New Yorkers who revealed stories of “gypsy wanderings” during their stay in Russia.

“They traveled afoot and on horseback, in auto, bus and train. They tried to scale Mt. Ararat and pay their respects to Noah’s memory, but the Turkish and Persian governments refused them permits,” the Eagle reported. “Undaunted, these feminine knights errant headed for the Caucasian Mountains, where many a sturdy Russian heart quails to go.”
