Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 219th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1925, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Bandits Gag Five in Store and Get $100,000 in Furs.”

The article focused on five armed bandits robbing a crowded fur store in Manhattan.

“The bandits gained a long start on the police, who were not notified of the holdup until the bound men had wriggle free and ran into the street shouting for help,” the Eagle reported.

The Hatfield family then captured the three McCoys. When Ellison Hatfield died on Aug. 9, the Hatfields executed the brothers. The feud continued with much loss of life and sputtered out by the end of the century.
