August 3, birthdays for Tom Brady, Martha Stewart, Karlie Kloss
Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 215th day of the year.
ON THIS DAY IN 1919, The Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Two Cent Transfer Fee Goes Into Effect; No Disorder Reported.”
The article focused on a two-cent increase on public transportation transfer fare.
“The morning rush hour traffic today, at which considerable confusion and protest against the extra charge was anticipated, was handled without any difficulty whatever,” the Eagle reported. “The only noticeable effect of the order was a large decrease in the number of transfers issued.”
