Approximately 100 local children took the field at MCU Park with Brooklyn Cyclones players and volunteer coaches on Thursday, July 9 to participate in the first of three MCU Youth Baseball/Softball Clinics of the 2015 season.

The clinics provide boys and girls ages seven to 14 with a rare opportunity to learn fielding, running, throwing, stretching and injury prevention from the Brooklyn Cyclones. In addition to learning baseball fundamentals on a professional baseball field and meeting some local baseball players, the youngsters also took part in a question-and-answer session and received four free tickets to attend that night’s Brooklyn Cyclones game.

“It was fabulous, and the kids had such a great time. You could just see it on their faces,” said Sherry Goldman, a spokesperson for MCU. “And they all got four tickets to go to the game that night, so they got to stay and watch the Cyclones play and win.”

This is the MCU Youth Baseball/Softball Clinic Series’ second season. The program started in 2014, and during that year over 200 children from across the greater New York City area came to Coney Island for the clinics. This year’s two remaining clinics are scheduled to take place on August 12 and August 24, and are already almost filled. Each clinic can hold approximately 100 youth.

Participants can sign up for the clinics by clicking on the “community” tab on the Brooklyn Cyclones’ website, www.brooklyncyclones.com.

“It’s part of MCU’s effort to give back to the community, particularly the youth of the community, and MCU Park is a great place to do it,” Goldman said.

The clinics are free to the public.
