Generally Speaking: Laurie Windsor wins another 2-year term at CEC 20

Laurie Windsor who has been consistently re-elected as a board member of  School District 20’s Community Education Council since 2005, has been tapped for a sixth two-year term as president of the 2015-2017 Council. Windsor, the mother of three public school children, is also a member of Community Board 11, and the Children’s Ragamuffin Parade Committee.

Among the newly elected officers were Ellen McKenna, first vice president; Zi Yi Pan, second vice president; Bob Lee, recording secretary and Shelia Higginson, treasurer.  Other recently elected members of the Council are Adele Doyle, Eileen Connelly, Mary Ann Ortiz, Armany Naseif and Robert Yee. Ortiz was selected Council Pro-temp to conduct the executive board election which took place at District 20 Headquarters on 89th Street in Bay Ridge.

The Brooklyn Borough President gets the option of selecting two Council members for each of the Borough’s 12 education councils.  Eric Adams has appointed Stanley Ng and Shelia Higginson to CEC 20.  Both Ng and Higginson were former elected members of CEC20. Ng was also a past member on the Citywide High School Education Council.

Veteran educator  Karina Costantino,  who has been serving several years as local Community Superintendent of Schools for District 20 and was reappointed by Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina, selected Fort Hamilton High School senior Ezana Ceman as the Student Member of CEC 20.  Randi Lazarus continues as Council Administrative Assistant and Bill Chin as District Family Advocate.

While the elected and appointed Council members are non-salaried, they voted to approve a proposed budget of $20,000 which is to cover reimbursements, photocopying, postage, and office supplies.
