“Juno” star Allison Janney was spotted filming on June 30 and July 1 for their new movie, “Tallulah,” at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center at Bay Ridge and the Bookmark Shoppe on Third Avenue.

“Tallulah,” which is an independent dramatic comedy written and directed by Sian Heder of “Orange is the New Black,” is set to be filmed almost entirely in Manhattan. The story takes place in New York City, and Janney and co-star Ellen Page were spotted the previous week on St. Marks Place between Second and Third Avenues.

“They loved our location from day one of scouting,” Christine Freglette, co-owner of the BookMark Shoppe, said about the film’s producers. “Our shoppe has a great cozy feeling, we are a great size, [and] we were very accommodating and happy to have the opportunity. We had the perfect set up for the book reading for Allison Janney’s character.”

The movie centers around the story of a free-spirited women, Tallulah, played by Page, who everyone thinks kidnapped a baby away from its irresponsible mother to raise on her own with the help of her ex-boyfriend’s mother, played by Janney. When the baby is returned to its true mother, the three women form an unbreakable bond.

In the scene filmed at the bookstore on June 30, a character hosts a book reading and runs into some old friends on the way to the reading.

“Movies filmed in the area definitely generate more local spending and bring new people to our community who we hope will come back and enjoy our wonderful shops, restaurants, and more,” said Freglette about the local filming.

On June 30, the scene outside the hospital involves a character handing over the baby after police and social services find her there. Police pull up to the hospital, and the character gets arrested, walks out in handcuffs and is driven off in a cop car.

The film’s release date has not yet been announced.
