Brooklyn’s 62nd Precinct, serving the neighborhoods of Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend, welcomed a new commanding officer in late June —Captain Anthony Sanseverino.

Sanseverino, who spent two years as an executive officer with 70th Precinct in Flatbush and Midwood, expressed his excitement to this paper and said that the move was “a great opportunity.

“It’s an opportunity to move on with my career and go from being an executive officer to being a commanding officer,” said Sanseverino. “I’m just really looking forward to it. I have a nice opportunity now to take the relationship further and in the right direction with the community.

“I want to continue the incredible crime reduction and bridge the relationship with the community,” he continued, “[I want to] make the community a real partner with the Police Department.”

Sanseverino replaces Deputy Inspector William Taylor, who was inducted as commanding officer of the 62nd Precinct in October of 2013, and who has followed in the footsteps of the commanding officer he replaced, Deputy Inspector James Rooney, going on to lead the 60th Precinct in Coney Island, Sheepshead Bay, Brighton Beach and parts of Bensonhurst after his work at the 62nd.

Louis Trimboli, president of the 62nd Precinct Community Council, praised the work Taylor did while he was at the 62nd Precinct.

“The change is inevitable, it always happens, every couple of years,” said Trimboli. “[However] Captain Taylor did a fine job with the numbers, which are more than just numbers. They’re crime and quality of life. He did the things that needed to be done.

“Our new C.O. comes out of the 70th Precinct,” Trimboli said about Sanseverino, “and I’m sure he has been well groomed for the 62nd Precinct job.”
