Students celebrated at Michael J. Ferraro Community Service Awards ceremony

Members of the 62^nd Precinct Community Council and local families gathered at the St. Finbar Center on Tuesday, June 16 to celebrate the 36^th anniversary of the Michael J. Ferraro Community Service Awards and congratulate the 24 students receiving the award.

“This is a tradition here in this precinct and in this neighborhood,” said Councilmember Vincent Gentile. “Michael Ferraro understood about giving back to community. Not only was he in the precinct council but he was chairman of three boards of trading when he was alive. That giving back helped make Bensonhurst one of the best neighborhoods to live in and we need to continue that tradition. The fact that so many students tonight got that award tells me that the future of Bensonhurst is bright.”

According to the precinct council, award recipients are chosen by their respective teachers and principals, and are students that go “above and beyond for their school and community.”

“[These] children are getting these awards because they are an asset to the community,” stressed Captain Nelson Chen, the executive officer of the 62nd Precinct.

This year’s award recipients are: Jabari Marshal, The Catherine Laboure School; Henny Baum, Tiferes Miriam; Ricky Cohen, Magen David Yeshivah; James Patino, Our Lady of Guadalupe; Vanessa Klein, St. Athanasius; Ciara Pissirusso, St. Pete’s Catholic Academy; Cynthia Mazile, Bishop Kearney H.S.; Andrew Windsor, New Utrecht High School; Aleksandr Sahakyan, I.S. 96 Seth Low; Evelyn Quito, I.S. 227 Shallow; Abdullah Israr, I.S. 228 Boody; Kelly Chen, P.S./I.S. 229; Karime Sifuentes, I.S. 281 Cavallaro; Vivien Vago, P.S. 97; Adriana Wiacek, P.S. 101; Vanessa Chen, P.S. 112; Kyle Duncan, P.S. 128; Benson Huang, P.S. 163; Medge Ahmed, P.S. 177; Alberto Lazaro, P.S. 186; Edward Chiu, P.S. 200; Gabriella Santora, P.S. 204; Brianna Chan, P.S. 205; and Ariel Yusifov, P.S. 247.
