Students celebrated at Michael J. Ferraro Community Service Awards ceremony
Members of the 62nd Precinct Community Council and local families gathered at the St. Finbar Center on Tuesday, June 16 to celebrate the 36th anniversary of the Michael J. Ferraro Community Service Awards and congratulate the 24 students receiving the award.
“This is a tradition here in this precinct and in this neighborhood,” said Councilmember Vincent Gentile. “Michael Ferraro understood about giving back to community. Not only was he in the precinct council but he was chairman of three boards of trading when he was alive. That giving back helped make Bensonhurst one of the best neighborhoods to live in and we need to continue that tradition. The fact that so many students tonight got that award tells me that the future of Bensonhurst is bright.”
According to the precinct council, award recipients are chosen by their respective teachers and principals, and are students that go “above and beyond for their school and community.”
