Students at Genesis, the middle school program at Xaverian High School in Bay Ridge, recently completed an important step in their educational lives when they graduated and prepared for life in high school.

Genesis celebrated the commencement exercises for the Class of 2015 on a recent Saturday with a ceremony that included an invocation by student Madeline Schalk, welcoming remarks by Xaverian President Robert Alesi and a closing prayer led by student Brendan Cottingham.

Co-valedictorians Brigid McEvoy and Kathryn McGarty gave speeches.

Deacon Kevin McCormack, the principal of Xaverian, served as the keynote speaker at the ceremony.

There were 76 students in the Genesis Class of 2015. The graduates will be moving on to several private, parochial and public high schools including Xaverian High School, at 7100 Shore Road.

“The young men and women of the Class of 2015 are remarkable representatives of the Genesis standard of excellence,” said Dean of Genesis Patricia McEvoy. “I am very proud of their many accomplishments and I know they have bright and rewarding futures.”

In addition to the graduation ceremony, the Genesis students and their families gathered at Saint Ephrem Catholic Church on June 11 to celebrate a special graduation mass.

The mass was followed by a dinner and dance for the students at Gennaro’s Catering Hall in Dyker Heights.
