First-time, low-income fathers and their families gathered in Brooklyn Bridge Park Sunday to celebrate Father’s Day at an event organized in part by Visiting Nurse Service of New York’s (VNSNY) Children and Family Services. The nonprofit aids the Bronx Fatherhood Program and Queens’ Fathers First Program to help young, low-income fathers become active, important people in their sons’ and daughters’ lives.

Baby Buggy, another nonprofit, also helped to organize the event. Baby Buggy takes a child-focused approach to curbing generational poverty by linking access to crucial child gear items to parental participation in community-based programs designed to lift the family out of poverty. Founded by Jessica Seinfeld, the organization has donated essential items to VNSNY’s Fatherhood programs.
