The city’s Department of Transportation (DOT) had to deal with a sinkhole that had suddenly developed on a Bay Ridge block Monday night.

It’s not clear why the roadway in front of 465 Bay Ridge Parkway suddenly buckled, but DOT quickly dispatched crews to investigate and patch up the street.

A car parked at the location was dangerously close to being swallowed up by the sinkhole, according to witnesses.

DOT placed tape around the sinkhole site so that drivers and pedestrians would know to stay away.

By Tuesday morning, repair crews had covered the sinkhole.

The city’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) also responded to the scene, according to state Sen. Marty Golden’s office.
