ON THIS DAY in 1909, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “She Clung to the Arms of Climbing Burglar.”

The article focused on a petite woman who managed to intimidate a burglar and banish him successfully.  

“Mrs. Bertha Lovejoy who, with her husband, Clarence Lovejoy and four sons, occupies the detached house at 1114 Bay Ridge Ave., is a woman who, though frail in build, has unusual nerve and courage,” the Eagle reported.
