In this courtroom sketch, Hon. Francois Rivera engages the attorneys outside the presence of the jury while addressing a settlement of the labor law trial Patrick Lombardo v. Dormitory Authority this week in Kings County Civil Term.

The case involved a construction site accident at Medgar Evers College. The plaintiff, represented by Harvey Weitz (standing, left), of counsel to the law firm Andrew L. Weitz & Associates, was a 46-year-old carpenter working at bracing a Con Edison vault in June 2007. The plaintiff stepped on a wooden plank that gave way, causing him to fall and suffer serious injuries including fractured ribs and a punctured lung. The directed verdict on liability found in favor of the plaintiff.

The defendant was represented by Karen L. Campbell (standing, right) and Lauren A. Jones (seated), of the law firm Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP. Standing to the right of Judge Rivera is John Chen, a summer intern from Brooklyn Law School.
