Wahlberg family seeks local residents to work in new eatery

Hey Coney Island residents, how would you like the chance to work at a job where you can rub elbows with celebrities?

Wahlburgers, the popular casual dining restaurant chain owned by actors Mark and Donnie Wahlberg and their family, is holding a job fair in preparation for its grand opening this summer on Stillwell Avenue, it was announced on May 22.

And the owners are looking for local residents to join their staff.

The job fair will take place from Thursday, May 28, to Saturday, May 30, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. each day outside 3015 Stillwell Ave., the site of the restaurant.

“Following the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, we are thrilled to be at the forefront of the revitalization of Coney Island with the opening of Wahlburgers, in turn creating job opportunities for people in the area,” said John Cestare of Big Apple Burgers, a partner in the new restaurant.

The Wahlburgers’ team will be interviewing job applicants to fill more than 75 positions, including management, restaurant supervisors, wait staff, bartenders, chefs, hosts, retail and cafe personnel and bus staff.

An opening date has not yet been announced, but the owners have previously stated that the eatery will open this summer.

The new 6,800-square-foot restaurant and bar will be the first Wahlburgers to open in New York and will share all of the signature characteristics of the flagship Wahlburgers in Massachusetts.

Founded by Executive Chef Paul Wahlberg and his celebrity brothers Mark and Donnie Wahlberg, the first Wahlburgers opened in October 2011 in Hingham, Massachusetts. Their mother Alma also plays a key role in the restaurant.

Wahlburgers at Coney Island will be serving gourmet burgers and specialty drinks. The restaurant, overlooking Coney Island’s boardwalk and beach, will be open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 7:30 a.m. until closing time. The eatery will boast a rooftop patio with a retractable glass roof, an indoor-outdoor bar and a walk-up window serving food and cocktails.
