Donovan named to House Homeland Security Committee
U.S. Rep. Dan Donovan, who was only recently elected to office, has already landed a plum assignment in the House of Representatives. On Thursday, the freshman congressman announced that he will serve as a member of two high-profile committees; Homeland Security and Foreign Affairs.
“The issues being considered by the Homeland Security and Foreign Affairs Committees are incredibly important to our nation, and specifically New York,” Donovan (R-C-Southwest Brooklyn-Staten Island) said in a statement. “This is a scary time for our global security and there are many complex problems to tackle, but our goal must always be a safe and strong America. These committee assignments will allow me to play a key role in the decisions affecting America’s leadership on the world stage, and most importantly to ensure New York has every resource it needs to be protected from terrorism.”
Donovan, the former Staten Island district attorney, defeated Democrat Vincent Gentile and Green Party candidate James Lane in a special election held May 5 to replace former Republican congressman Michael Grimm, who resigned from office on Jan. 5 after pleading guilty to one count of tax fraud in Brooklyn Federal Court.
