Brooklyn Today

Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 125th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY in 1913, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Baseball is Here; 25,000 See Game at Ebbets Field.”
The article focused on the Superbas and Yankees crossing bats for the first game of the season.
“Twenty-five thousand hearts thumped with joy, twenty-five thousand pairs of feet pounded the concrete floor and twenty-five thousand voices roared with delight — the day of days had at last arrived,” the Eagle reported. “Bill Dablen’s Superbas made their debut in Ebbets Field this afternoon [facing] Frank Chance’s Yankee Americans, and the baseball season of 1913 was ushered in.”
The Superbas later became the Brooklyn Dodgers.
