A cast of zany, lovable characters, including a wannabe rock star, a winsome waitress who wins his affection and a spicy grandmother, are all part of the fun of “The Wedding Singer,” the 2006 Broadway musical that was based on the hilarious 1998 movie starring Adam Sandler.

Narrows Community Theater, a theater company based in Bay Ridge, is presenting its version of the madcap musical comedy in a series of performances starting May 1 at the Fort Hamilton Post Theater, located at the U.S. Army Garrison at Fort Hamilton.

Visitors should enter the fort at the main gate at Fort Hamilton Parkway and 101st Street. A photo ID is required to enter the military base.

“The Wedding Singer” is set in Ridgefield, New Jersey during the mid-1980s and offers a tale of romance set to lively music from that decade. The show is inhabited by a bunch of madcap, memorable characters.

The show stars Max Baudisch as “Robbie,” the wedding band’s lead singer and wannabe rock star;  Kristen Antonelle as “Julia,” the waitress who wins his affection;  Dalles Wilie as “George” and Josh Vidal as “Sammy,” Robbie’s bandmates; Amanda Szymczak as “Linda,” Robbie’s over-sexed girlfriend; Brian Kilday as “Glen Guglia,” Julia’s money loving Wall Street boyfriend; Devon Frieder as “Holly,” Julia’s forward, uninhibited cousin and best friend; Allison Greaker as “Angie,’ Julia’s bitter, divorced mom; and Dawn Hansen as “Rosie,” Robbie’s sweet and spicy grandmother.
