Construction Update: AVA DoBro, 100 Willoughby St., Downtown Brooklyn
Eye On Real Estate
Keep On Truckin’, Baby.
(Remember that Temptations song?)
Construction crews at Brooklyn development sites were toiling throughout the winter, making the most of every moment that it wasn’t snowing, sleeting or raining hard enough to make their job sites dangerous.
When they were out working on important new buildings, we weren’t sitting by the fireside poring over poetry books. Isn’t that why clothing companies sell ankle-length down coats with hoods — so real-estate obsessed Brooklynites can check up on construction projects without fear of frostbite?
Though things have shaped up in the past couple days, March came in like a lion, and was quite ugly when we did our construction site check-ups.
So, sadly, the skies are gray in our photos. But they will give you a sense of how several interesting developments are shaping up.
Here’s what we saw in Downtown Brooklyn:
Get a look at those baby blues.
We’re not admiring the eyes of some matinee idol. There’s pretty paneling of various azure shades on the façade of the tower that AvalonBay is building at 100 Willoughby St.
Above those floors, which are numerous, the structural framework rises high into the sky.
When construction is completed in fall 2016, this will be Brooklyn’s tallest building, all 57 stories of it.
In September, when we last visited the Downtown Brooklyn development, the only thing visible from the surrounding sidewalks was the bare skeleton of the bottom floors of the building.
The 826-unit rental-apartment tower, which was formerly known as Avalon Willoughby West, has been given a new name, AVA DoBro.
According to the building’s marketing website, amenities for tenants will include a fitness center, indoor and outdoor lounge areas on the building’s 57th-floor rooftop and a 29th-floor outdoor terrace with a lounge, fire pits and barbecues.
Residents will be allowed to have dogs and cats as pets — so there will be a heated indoor and outdoor dog run.
