Chief Monaghan honored during Walk Out ceremony

Hail to the chief!

Chief Owen Monaghan was honored for his 34 years of service, culminating in his retirement as two-star chief and commander of Patrol Borough Brooklyn South during a Walk Out ceremony, held at PBBS headquarters, 2820 Snyder Avenue, on Friday, March 6.

Attendees such as Police Commissioner Bill Bratton and former Commanding Officer of Brooklyn South and current Chief of Transit Joseph Fox were among the prominent NYPD brass present, as was Borough President Eric Adams, himself a former NYPD captain.

There were also many community leaders, including 68^th Precinct Community Council President Ilene Sacco; Community Board 10 District Manager Josephine Beckmann; and President of the Dyker Heights Civic Association Fran Vella-Marrone were among those present to congratulate Monaghan on a job well done.

A moving moment was when Monaghan signed out for the final time. He has been appointed vice president, security, for New York City Transit, a position he will begin on Monday, March 9.

“I’m overwhelmed,” said Monaghan during a ceremony held at Borough Hall back in February “This room is filled with friends. You’re always very supportive. It’s a great, but bittersweet feeling.”
