The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for heavy snow for parts of New York City and Long Island.
The advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 7 p.m. Thursday for Brooklyn, Staten Island and Queens. Those areas could get between 4 and 8 inches of snow by the time it ends.
Less snow is predicted for Manhattan and the Bronx and southern Westchester County. A winter storm watch is in effect there during the same period. Between 3 and 6 inches of snow is expected.
Schools will be open on Thursday, the city said. After-school, adult education, PSAL, and YABC programs will also be open. All field trips will be canceled.
