ON THIS DAY in 1904, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Eight Houses in a Night Invaded by Burglars.”

The article focused on Vanderveer Park being “in a panic” over a gang of active thieves.

“The Vanderveer Park section is the latest Flatbush locality to be overrun by burglars,” the Eagle reported. “… Eight residents not more than a block apart and closely adjoining, were forcibly entered, in one instance the thieves having the temerity to return after the neighborhood had been thoroughly aroused, and breaking into the house next to the one from which the alarm had been sounded by the occupants discharging a revolver form their bedroom window.”
