Brooklyn Public Library is among finalists for national award

ROCHESTER— Six institutions in New York state, including the Brooklyn Public Library, are among the 30 finalists for the nation’s highest honor given to museums and libraries for community service.

The Washington, D.C.-based Institute of Museum and Library Services has released its list of finalists for the National Medal for Museum and Library Service, a 21-year-old award that recognizes institutions that demonstrate “extraordinary and innovative approaches to public service to make a difference for individuals, families, and communities.”

The New York institutions on the list are the Brooklyn Public Library, The Strong in Rochester, Manhattan’s Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, the New York Hall of Science in Queens, the Wild Center in Tupper Lake in the Adirondacks and the Middle Country Public Library in Centereach on Long Island.
