Two new beers, created by Coney Island Brewing Company, pay homage to Coney Island’s past and to the legacy of Brooklyn as a haven for artists.

Overpass — with juicy citrus flavors and tropical hop aromas in a deep golden, richly aromatic IPA — recognizes the artists, musicians and renaissance souls who staked claim and built a community Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass (DUMBO), according to Coney Island Brewing Company.

1609 is a deep amber ale with a full malt, slightly nutty character and strong citrus hop nose. Coney Island Brewing Company says the beer’s bold nature was inspired by the neighborhood’s history; 1609 was the year that explorers first set foot on that massive dune along the Atlantic that became Coney Island.

“We wanted to bottle the essence of Brooklyn in our beers,” said Mike Sheehan, Coney Island Beer ringleader. “With rich flavors, eclectic ingredients and a mix of both recognizable and subtle flavors, we hope people can really get a taste for the spirit of the borough.”

Coney Island Brewing’s newest offerings, along with its flagship beer, Mermaid Pilsner, will be available on draft and in bottles throughout Metro New York.
