Brooklyn Daily Eagle legal Editor Charisma L. Troiano hosted another segment of BK Live, discussing alternatives to sentencing programs. The Rockefeller Drug laws have now been abolished, and courts – using alternative-to-prison programs – have begun to sentence drug offenders to treatment over incarceration, with Brooklyn leading in this effort.

Brooklyn Treatment Court’s Project Director Joseph Madonia and Edward Rosario, Associate Director of the Prison Visiting Project for the Correctional Association of New York, joined Troiano and touched on the effects these alternative sentencing programs have had on both courts and offenders. What’s driving these reforms? We discuss all these issues and look at the program’s expansion.
