On National Signing Day, Wednesday, Feb. 4, Michael Brooks, who played as a defensive back and running back for the Fort Hamilton High School Tigers, signed with the University of Southern Connecticut.

Fort Hamilton High School, in Bay Ridge, has won three Public School Athletic League (PSAL) football titles in the past 10 years, in 2005, 2006 and 2010. The 2010 contest, against Abraham Lincoln High School, was the first high school football game played in the new Yankee Stadium.

In his online college recruiting statement, Brooks said, “My dream is going to college, getting my degree and playing Division 1 football. I would like to go on and then play on the next level in the NFL, but if not, I plan to fall back on an engineering career. … Then after college get a well-paying job so I could then give back to my mom and do for her what she has done for me.”
