Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn welcomed nearly 200 families to its annual Holiday Brunch and Pageant, transforming the school’s John Lockwood Auditorium into Santa’s Village on a recent Sunday afternoon.

The holiday event, a popular tradition at the Bay Ridge private school, featured a visit from Santa Claus as well as performances by the students. The Lower School students performed their version of “A Charlie Brown Holiday.” Members of the Upper School Adelphi Student Chorus, along with the Adelphi Faculty & Staff Band, treated the audience to “A Very Merry Holiday Performance.”

As chorus members sang “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town,” Santa entered the auditorium to thunderous applause. He then sat on stage and posed for photos with all the children. As a special treat, the photos were printed and sent home with the families as a holiday memento.

“The Annual Holiday Brunch and Pageant was a tremendous success and a wonderful opportunity for so many of our outstanding students to shine! The families in attendance were so proud of their children and I was so very proud of my students,” said Iphigenia Romanos, Adelphi’s head of school.

George Chedrawi, a local businessman and a member of Adelphi’s Parent Advisory Council, said he had a great time.

“No one does it better than Adelphi! My family enjoyed the event immensely, and Adelphi’s attention to detail in planning the event was really incredible. They had something for everyone,” he said.

The event also served as a fundraiser for the school. Gift baskets, donated by parents, staff members and supporters, were raffled off. The prizes included music and sports memorabilia, holiday DVDs and CDs and toys. Adelphi also announced the academy’s Special Trees for Special Needs Annual Fundraising Drive, through which participants are able to sponsor real, seven-foot-tall lighted trees that are displayed on the school campus at 8515 Ridge Blvd. throughout the holiday season.

Proceeds from the sponsorship program benefit Adelphi’s Project Succeed Program for College-Bound Students with Special Needs. Trees are still available for sponsorship and will be on display until Jan. 9. Call the Office of Academy Development at 718-238-3308 for information.
