A local child was seriously injured on Thursday, December 11 at 5:30 p.m. after exiting the F train station at Avenue U.

Officials say that the nine-year-old girl and her grandmother were crossing the street at McDonald Avenue and Avenue U to catch a bus to head home, when the child broke free from the grandmother and went across the street. She was then struck by an eastbound car on Avenue U. The victim sustained head injuries and was taken to Lutheran Hospital where she was listed in critical condition.

Officials stated the girl is expected to be transferred to Cohen Children’s Medical Center.

The driver remained on the scene and no charges were filed, though the investigation is ongoing.
