The Shore Road Parks Conservancy served up a sweet side of Christmas spirit at its 10th annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Monday, December 8.

Holiday cheer was plentiful at the Gazebo—located at 90th Street and Shore Road, despite the chilly weather. Attendees were treated to performances by the Xaverian High School PEP Band and Chorus, along with The Guild for Exceptional Children Chorus, three guitarists, and local resident Vincent Merola at the keyboard.

“It was fabulous in spite of the frigid weather,” said Linda Allegretti, president of The Shore Road Parks Conservancy. “We had many more people than I expected; many residents of Bay Ridge were there so it was wonderful.”

Children in attendance were treated to gifts and a visit from Santa Claus, as well as some hot chocolate and cookies.

The event was sponsored by Panera Bread and included donations from Food Town and Bay Ridge Manor.

“It’s become one of the major events in Bay Ridge and people have been donating,” added Allegretti. “It’s fabulous. It’s like small town New England.”
