A Bedford-Stuyvesant man recently returned from the West African country of Mali – which borders Guinea, one of the three countries at the center of the Ebola outbreak – is being held in isolation at Bellevue Hospital in case he contracted the deadly virus.

The man tested negative for Ebola, but will undergo further tests to confirm the initial results, stated the city Health Department (DOH) and Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC).

Although Mali is “a country with limited Ebola transmission,” HHC stated that “due to [his] travel history and symptoms, the patient has been isolated.” He was taken to Bellevue on Thursday, November 20, with serious flu-like symptoms.
