Reaching-Out Community Services (RCS) is once again attempting to give back during the holidays for families in need with its annual Operation Gobbler Giver event, to be held on Monday, November 24, and the non-profit organization is asking for the community’s help to make sure that families served by the group can sit down to a bountiful feast on Thanksgiving Day.

Reaching-Out Executive Director Thomas Neve looks forward every year to the event. “We’ve been doing this maybe eight years,” he said. “We distribute turkeys and trimmings to clients and families that need it.”

However, to bring the event to fruition, the organization is asking those who are able to help to provide a donation of at least $20 to help each family receive a full Thanksgiving meal.

“So far it’s been okay,” said Neve regarding contributions. “We’re committed to at least 600 families. I’m sure there will be more. If we can secure more, we could help more people. I don’t want to bite off more than I can chew, but hopefully we could reach out to more families with help.”

Although the holidays are a busy time, helping families, that are financially struggling, Neve tries to help them all year. “We service people in the fight against hunger 365 days a year,” he stressed.

With the help of sponsors such as CPEX Real Estate and Food Bank for New York City, the event’s chances of success increase, according to Neve. “We appreciate their efforts as well a few other organizations that will help make it happen,” he said. “We greatly depend on them and their donations.”

As every year, Neve wants to make sure every family can enjoy the holidays “We just appreciate the community and those who sponsor this event.  We want to bring hope and relief to families that are struggling,” he added. “Everyone deserves to have Thanksgiving with family regardless of their financial situation.”
