BROOKLYN BY THE BOOK

Join the Brooklyn Public Library for its November installment of Brooklyn by the Book, “A Celebration of Stoner” on Tuesday, November 18. This month’s installment will look into the 1965 novel Stoner by John Williams and how it suddenly landed on bestseller lists across Europe last year.

Meet at the Central Library’s Dweck Center (10 Grand Army Plaza) at 7 p.m. for a conversation on Stoner’s resurgence with novelist Ruth Rendell, critic and classicist Daniel Mendelsohn, and poet and memoirist Honor Moore. The discussion will be moderated by writer and literary critic Liesl Schillinger.

STORY OF THE AGES

Bring your children. Bring your parents.

Head to Magnolia Tree (677 Lafayette Avenue) on Saturday, November 22 at 2 p.m. for A Story of the Ages Film Festival. A Story of the Ages Film Festival unites young people and senior citizens from different cultures in an opportunity to create autobiographical vignettes.

A BRONX TALE IN BROOKLYN

Academy Award nominee Chazz Palminteri will bring his critically-acclaimed one-man play “A Bronx Tale” to the Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College on Sunday, November 23.

The compelling drama vividly depicts a young boy’s struggle to grow up in his Italian-American Bronx neighborhood, as he is torn between the values of an overbearing father and the influence of a local mobster.

Written and performed by Palminteri, the semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story inspired an iconic gangster film, enjoyed a successful Broadway run and will take the Brooklyn Center’s Walt Whitman Theater stage (2900 Campus Road) at 3 p.m.
