ON THIS DAY in 1907, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Detective Dixon Held in the Col. Dyer Case.” The article focused on a detective who was arrested at the time.

“Lawrence T. Dixon, a private detective … was arraigned before Magistrate Moss in the [police] court, Manhattan, this morning on a charge of trying to induce a witness to leave the jurisdiction of the state,” the Eagle reported.

GRACE PATRICIA KELLY, Oscar Award-winning actress for “The Country Girl,” was born on this day in 1929. Kelly became Princess Grace of Monaco when she married Prince Rainier, III, in 1956. She died in 1982 due to injuries from a motor accident.

PARKS AND RECREATION Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver will present his vision at a lecture event today at 6 p.m. in Pratt’s Memorial Hall Auditorium. “Planning for Parks: What’s Next?” is free and open to the public and part of the Pratt Presents series.
