Election Day is usually a tense affair for candidates, but one man running his first-ever campaign decided to enjoy himself.

“I’m having fun!” Republican-Conservative Stamatis Lilikakis told the Brooklyn Eagle early in the evening on Tuesday as he was heading to a Bay Ridge subway stop to meet and greet voters.

Lilikakis, a manufacturer and first-time candidate, is running against incumbent Democratic Assemblymember Alec Brook-Krasny in the 46th Assembly District (Bay Ridge-Dyker Heights-Coney Island-Brighton Beach).

“I criss-crossed the district today. Earlier, I was out in Brighton Beach. I’m having a great time meeting the voters. People are great and they aren’t shy about telling you what they think of politicians!” said Lilikakis, who lives in Bay Ridge.

Lilikakis said that even if he loses the election, he feels he made the most of his candidacy. “I’m not going away. I’m going to be a thorn in the side of politicians. I brought a lot of issues to the table for discussion. I’m tired of politicians saying that everything’s great when it’s not,” he said.

When asked how he planned to spend Election Night, Lilikakis said he would go to a few more subway stations and then head home to watch the vote count. “I’m going to relax,” he said, before running off to the R train station at 86th Street and Fourth Avenue.
