Ridge-born bar manager dies in Manhattan

Ridgeite Sean Verdi, 23, died on Wednesday morning, October 29, after being found unconscious in the bathtub of a friend’s Manhattan apartment, said police, according to a report in the New York Daily News.

He died about an hour after being rushed to Saint Luke’s Hospital, reportedly due possibly to an accidental drug overdose. The results of an autopsy have yet to be completed.

The son of third-generation restaurant owner Steven Colandrea, of New Corner Restaurant, worked as a club manager at Bar-Tini Ultra Lounge and was well-liked in the neighborhood. He recently graduated with a degree in bioengineering from New Jersey’s Stevens Institute of Technology.

Colandrea described his son as “a great kid [who] loved people” and said that the family was in shock. He also questioned why Verdi was in the bathtub.

The family has asked for privacy at this time to process their loss.

Friends of Verdi’s took to social media to express their shock and sadness, sharing happy memories.
