Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that the state and city would protect the jobs and wages of healthcare workers who volunteer with nonprofits that help combat Ebola in West Africa.

The protections are modeled after those granted members of the military.

They also said the state would reimburse workers or their employers for the costs associated with the quarantine period.

De Blasio has said that he estimates the cost of Ebola preparation and other related services will be in the millions.
