On Saturday, October 25, the Kings County Steelers traveled to Ozone Park, NY to face the Lynvets. After winning the coin toss, the Steelers began slowly and faltered on their first two possessions.

In the last minutes of the first quarter, the Steelers finally found the end zone when wide receiver Artie Acevedo turned a five-yard reception from quarterback Sal Miciotta into a 25-yard scamper, leaving defenders laying in his wake, for the Steelers’ first score of the game.

The Steelers’ offense struggled but their defense was once again relentless, led by an outstanding performance by defensive end Luciano DiPreta, who recorded two sacks and five tackles.

The Steelers’ defense slammed the door on the Lynvets time and time again, with contributions from Acevedo and linebacker “Junior” Clark who both finished with four tackles and 1.5 sacks each.

Steelers defensive tackle Daniel Torres also had a sack and fumble recovery and outside linebacker Vincenzo DeRiggi was ferocious with four tackles at a crucial point in the game when Lynvets threatened to drive down the field.

The Steelers’ offense labored to move the ball after halftime until Jayda Garcia entered the game at running back in her first football game ever. The next play was a handoff to Garcia, who sprinted around the right side, dodging Lynvet defenders, before turning on the jets and blazing between two potential tacklers to sprint 32 yards for her first touchdown.

The Steelers walked away with a 16-0 victory over the Lynvets and have pulled into contention for the NYCYFL playoffs.
