St. Ephrem School celebrated its annual Walk-a-Thon on Wednesday, September 26. The major fundraiser is the first event of many held throughout the year. Students walked along the route, outside of the school, along 74th Street between Fort Hamilton Parkway and 10th Avenue. It was a beautiful, sunny warm day that was appreciated by all.

Mrs. Mary Lavelle, who has done a terrific job over the past 10 years, coordinated the popular event. Her hard work and dedication in making the Walk-a-Thon a success is greatly appreciated by everyone. She was presented with a plaque by the home School Association acknowledging her contributions to the school.

The Early Childhood children consisting of students in Nursery through second grade led off the Walk-a-Thon. Parents, grandparents, and caretakers helped them walk the route along with their teachers. The following group was comprised of grades three through eight, who had a great time enjoying the music and having fun with their friends.

A special thank you goes to ‘DJs @ Work’ who did a great job providing popular music hits, which the children walked, sang and even danced to. Kris Mathis, proprietor of ‘DJs @ Work’ is a parent whose three children attend the school, and graciously offered his services at no cost to the school.

Other generous sponsors included Bassett Catering and Ridge Physical Therapy. The Home School Association stated that they have collected over $16,000 and counting as sponsors are still sending in money.

The fun-filled day also included an ice cream treat that was provided by the Home School Association. It was a treat that the kids enjoyed after their busy day! We look forward to the Family Halloween Night, which is scheduled for October 25 at 7 p.m. in the New School Hall.
