Chancellor Carmen Fariña has let go four school superintendents – including Rhonda Farkas of District 22 – as part of an effort to strengthen classroom performance by strengthening district-DOE relationships.

The four superintendents affected have until December 31 to find a new job within or outside of the DOE. Eleven others have already resigned, retired or transferred jobs since Fariña’s July announcement that all 42 superintendents must reapply for their jobs.

All superintendents must now have at least 10 years of school experience, including three as principal, and must visit all schools in their district at least once a year, checking in on principals and teachers and reporting back to Fariña on progress and needs.
