Sunset Park cop recognized for nabbing serial robber
The 72nd Precinct’s Cop of the Month was Police Officer Yi Li, who, his superiors said, had helped find and arrest a man who, it turned out, had 22 prior arrests, mostly for robbery.
Li was recognized and thanked by Captain Thomas Ng during the precinct’s October community council meeting. According to Ng, Li responded to a 9-1-1 call from a pedestrian who had been robbed of his cell phone at 49th Street and Fourth Avenue at around 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 25.
Li “broadcast the suspect’s description” across the police scanner, said Ng, resulting in 32-year-old Jorge Lopez’s arrest.
